On January 22, 2010 Bayless High School and Junior High held "Hats on to Haiti". Students were able to wear hats in school if they brought in a dollar (or more). The proceeds went to benefit the victims of the devastating 7.0 earthquake that happened on Haiti on January 12, 2010. As always, Bayless students showed their compassion and raised over $600. "This meant a lot to me", said freshman Luella Loseille." Most of my family are in Haiti and they were greatly affected
During the week of January 25-29, Bayless Elemenntary and Intemediate School students donated items to make up personal hygiene kits for the children in Haiti. This was in partnership with the Convoy of Hope program which has been in Haiti for 3 years feeding 11,000 children each day. Since January 12, 2010 when the earthquake hit, Convoy of Hope has distributed 294,296 meals at up to 9 PODs (points of distribution) through Tuesday January 19, 2010 to earthquake survivors, and has 1 million pounds of food and relief supplies currently being shipped. Convoy of Hope has also installed 30 water filtration systems providing clean drinking water. Convoy of Hope which is based here in Springfield, Missouri asked area schools for their help on donating "Kits 4 Kids" which contained a full size shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, anti-bacterial soap, comb and hand towel packaged in convenient gallon zip lock bags. In only 5 days time, Bayless Elementary and Intermediate Schools were able to contribute 240 completed "Kits 4 Kids" to the Convoy of Hope for children in Haiti. “Kits 4 Kids” provided an opportunity for Bayless school children to participate in a meaningful humanitarian service.
